Hey there, I hope this blog entry finds all of you well.
It’s been a busy few weeks here at Also Ran. Taking up most of our time and effort has been the running of various community music projects in the Cambridge area of UK- we offered up free studio time to groups of local aspiring artists and helped them to compose and record their own songs, and then perform those songs live at an event. It all ran very well, and I’m pretty sure all of the participants got a lot of value from coming on board- I got a great feeling watching them all perform.
The down-side of that has been our own studio productions have had to take a back-seat, and now that the dust has settled, I’m really looking forward to cracking on with some beats. I have some un-finished tracks that I’m kind of excited by and just need to apply a few finishing touches, which for me is always the hardest part- I remember talking to Joshua from Iz and Diz when I first started out, and the advice he gave me was to know when to let go of the song and put it out ‘you’re never gonna think it’s perfect’.
The good news is that we’re putting out an EP from Martin Dawson (who was recently in the UK playing at one of the legendary Kitchen parties). It’s 3 bumping house tracks, all kind of deep and all beautiful in their own way. I’m gonna be remixing Dub Freedom from the release later in the year- I’m looking forward to getting my hands on the parts . We’ll upload the EP on the site in the next few days.
Finally, my ‘Least Effort’ EP was released for download last week. I’ve been very happy with the response, the track has been featured on lots of radio shows and podcasts, and has been lurking around the Juno top 40 sales chart since we put it out. You can check it out HERE.
